The Island of St. Lucia
George F. L. Charles (Vigie), or SLU is the smaller Northern airport that is serviced by Dehavilands from smaller airports such as
Puerto Rico and Barbados. It is about 10 min. from Castries, and 20 from Rodney Bay. The photo on the right was across from the small terminal and was much better than most airport food, drink and entertainment. Plus you could sit on the beach, just the other side of the trees with an ICAB until your boarding call.
Hewannora, or UVF is the southernmost airport and gets service from the largest airplanes. You can get direct flights in here, but you will need transportation up to Castries where the ships tie up. It takes about 1½ hrs.
on Mr. Toad's wild ride for about $50 PP. You can also take a very scenic 10 min. helicopter ride
to get to the other airport that will cost about $150 then $10 more to the ship.
On one trip however, I used a slighly more unorthodox method of transport across the island.
Hotel managment was a bit "concerned" by my entrance to begin with.
Since I wasn't under arrest, they assumed I must be a VIP of some sort
when the Police politely unloaded my luggage and bid me a good day.
I never DID tell the manager what was going on, but from then on they treated me VERY well.
Coco Kreole Hotel
The Kreole merged with its adjacent, and much more upscale hotel the CoCo Palms. If you stay in either you have full use of all facililties.

This is an old map of Rodney Bay. The asterisks are places I've eaten at. If you love cows like I love cows, stop in at the Big Chef. They bring out a huge plate of the type of steak you want and you pick the one you want. They also have an extensive wine list. The unique thing is that you can have ANYTHING by the glass.
