Many people like me have grown older, but not more mature. We have learned that time off is worth more than the money that they pay us. This is a way you can GET that needed time. It works for many small to medium sized companies that can be flexible with wages and compensation. The spreadsheet here will compare getting a raise of cash only, to a lesser amount with compensating time off. It even takes into account the employer paying an amount equal to your salary to get someone to cover for your lost productivity. The one thing that cannot be calculated though is the relative value of your position to the company. If you are a critical person who cannot be replaced, then your value is more than the exact wage used here. However if you are indeed THAT valuable to them, don't you think you already deserve more compensation anyway?

You will need Excel to run this. You may save a copy to your own PC to work on it at your leisure or show to your boss. To use it, fill in ALL the unprotected blue boxes. As you play with the numbers, you will see that if you give up some of your hourly wage, over a year's time it can relate to quite a bit of time off WITH A SAVINGS TO YOUR BOSS. They LOVE to see that.
